A Southern Fried Mess

Insanity is a southern necessity…

What’s his name….

Quick! Name all three of the men who rode in Apollo 11— you know, the men  in the spaceship who went and landed on the moon. Come on; think about it for a moment.  Let’s see… We all know there was Neil Armstrong (the one who said the famous quote…and got it wrong), Buzz Aldrin ( second in command and second to walk on the moon), but who was the third guy?

I’ve asked several people this question and no one could answer it. I couldn’t answer it. Even hubby, who thinks wrestling is real and the moon landing is a Hollywood put on (just kidding of course), didn’t know.

So I Googled it…THREE times.  FINALLY (apparently Google was having a hard time naming him too…), I ran across an article that told me who the lone person left  to orbit the ship around in space was while the others played golf on the moon. Do you know yet? Has your brain begun functioning with that second cup of coffee?

It was Michael Collins —the  poor guy who did something REALLY great that NOBODY seems to remember (no, not the Irish revolutionary leader, the other Collins).

Well, Michael, maybe now a few more people will remember your name.

  1. Poor guy, he deserves a lot of credit!

I know he does. Hubby and I watched a whole TV show on the moon thing and they only mentioned his name once ( and showed his picture maybe twice). Can you believe it? Poor dude, he will always be remembered as What’s his Name…. 🙂

  2. Was it Armstrong???

Ha, ha!! You’re too funny. Hubby and I actually spent three whole commercials trying to remember his name. Finally, I broke out the lap top.

  3. The internets are cool, but evidently they almost forgot about this guy. It would be easier to find the band members of N’Sync than the Apollo 11 astronauts. Kinda sad, huh?

Yep; sad but very true. No wonder kids come off dumber to me nowadays then when I was their age….. then again I was never the brightest thing around. 🙂
